What could possibly cause a LG 245 to get bad reception?

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with this issue. I just purchased an LG 245 thru Telus. The problem: When I call my friend on her cell (LG3300 thru Virgin), she is reporting a really bad echo on her own voice. I can hear her fine. This only happens when I call her from my house on her cell when she is at work. (a town 30 miles from my house) This problem also happens when I make long distance calls from my house to other cell phones OR landlines. Always an echo on their own voice, and I can hear them fine.

I use speakerphone with my phone in an upright holder when I'm at home because that's how I get the best signal strength. (volume low) When I turn the speakerphone off, the echo stops. (However, I don't have the signal strength to hold the phone to my ear when I'm at home, and the speakerphone must be used.) Anyhow, I'm just wondering why this problem only occurs in these situations. All other calls that I make to and from the city are fine. I'm wondering if it's a network issue or a phone issue. I'm thinking network because I live in a rural area and perhaps I'm dialing into a roaming tower for these calls? Would this affect call quality and cause echo? I'm wondering if there is anything that I can do to minimize the problem. Any ideas/opinions would be much appreciated--thanks!

No problem, always glad to be a help to everyone with Telus.

Thanx Pooker jams! Hopefully this will lessen the problem; we'll see. Hope u don't mind if I bug you with questions every now and then....you're better help than many of the Telus reps that I've talked to...............

Yes some of the older towers have this problem and sometimes updating the Preferred Roaming List in the phone can solve the issue but also try taking the battery out of the phone, this resets the phones network coverage, signal strength and fixes issues. Remember cell phones are small computer and they do require a reboot every so often, turning the phone off doesnt always help this situation. Since Im not sure how Virgin uses PRL's they might have to take into a dealer to see if the PRL's can be updated. Also get the user on the other end to turn down the volume on the phone, having it cranked causes lots of echos and yes its really annoying I know, Samsung being the worst for this problem, hopefully this helps, if not Im not sure if they can be a fix.
