Keep my same phone number

do i get to keep my same phone number and where do i enter it

Hi Janice. Don't cancel your account yet. Your previous account must be active in order for the number transfer to go through. Once the transfer is complete, it will be automatically deactivated from your previous service provider

You’ll need the below information in order to complete the transfer

  • Old service provider brand
  • IMEI Number OR Previous Provider Account Number
  • Alternate Contact Phone Number

Transfer a Number During Activation

If you want to transfer your phone number while you activate you will have the option to do so. To ensure that you can complete the transfer, make sure that your old SIM is still inside a device (or if you use eSIM, ensure your old eSIM is still activated) so that you can respond to any verification messages. Transferring your phone number happens in the Public Mobile app after you’ve set up your SIM, selected and paid for your subscription. Once you get to Step 5 of 6, ‘Set up Number’ follow these steps:

  1. Select ‘Transfer Number’
  2. Enter the phone number you’d like to transfer to Public Mobile
  3. Fill in the requested information
  4. Select ‘Activate’
  5. For additional security, your previous provider may send an SMS to validate the transfer. Follow the included instructions within 90 minutes to approve the number transfer.

While most transfers are completed within 1 hour, it could take up to 5 hours for your transfer to complete. Follow the prompts on your screen for more information as the transfer is in progress.

Hi Janice. Are you looking to transfer your number to another carrier?

If so, visit your carrier's website. They should have a page to know if your phone and number is compatible with them. Next, you will need to enter your phone's IMEI, dial *#06# on your phone's phone app. If you are still in contract with your current carrier, prepare to pay an early cancellation fee.

Which carrier are you with and which carrier do you plan to transfer your number to? Let us know so we can give you a more specific set of instruction.
