Taking the top spot in Motorola’s 2018 G-Series lineup, the G6 Plus offers everything reviewers loved about the standard G6 and adds a little more to the experience. Of course, this also adds to the price.
Key differences include:
- A faster octa-core 2.2Ghz Snapdragon 630 processor with 4 to 6GB of RAM
- An increased 32 to 64GB of internal storage
- A slightly larger 5.9-inch display
- 4K video capture
- A larger 3200mAh battery
Since the screen is the same resolution as the regular G6, you technically lose a small amount of clarity on paper. However, reviewers still found display sharp at 409 pixels-per-inch.
The increased processor speed and RAM makes multitasking and heavy gaming more fluid, but it’s still not a flagship in terms of performance. However, for most users, it can keep up with most common tasks as long as you don’t mind apps taking a little longer to load.
The cameras in the G6 Plus are nearly identical to the G6, but reviewers found it handled complex lighting and low-lighting better than the other two models. Still, they still wouldn’t recommend the camera and considered it the weakest part of the package.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly phone that will age gracefully, the G6 Plus is the best of the three new models. However, for many reviewers, the standard G6 was the sweet spot in terms of overall value. What the Critics Are Saying...
- Alexandru Stănescu, GSM DomeIt’s great for selfies, gaming and fast charging, so basically for the travelling gamer. We could have used a better battery and audio, but we can live without them, thanks to some camera attributes, especially front camera ones. The stock software with fast updates also helps and the design is mesm...
- What MobileUsing the G6 Plus is quick and easy. It’s obviously not the power handset that can be found at higher price points but the only slow down in performance we saw was during the set up when up to 30 applications were downloading at once. Small games are easy to play and the device is able to withstand...
- Stella Dauer, AndroidPITIn performance, the G6 Plus is similar to G5S Plus, but brings better cameras, better screen and sleeker design. The price is already falling and it seems to be a great option for those who do not want an older device like Z2 Play, but that needs performance. In some ways it may not be a better opti...
- Mike Wobker, NotebookcheckWith the Moto G6 Plus, Motorola is offering a powerful midrange smartphone. However, it is beleaguered not only by external rivals, but also by the good alternatives in Motorola's own ranks.
- Jon Mundy, TechRadarWith a big, bright display, quality build and strong performance, the Moto G6 Plus blurs the line between budget and mid-range smartphone. Whether it represents a sufficient leap forward from the brilliant Moto G6 is another matter, however.
