Google will soon start selling a Nexus 7 with 32 GB of storage and will phase out the existing 16 GB variant. The 32GB variant will keep the price tag of the phased-out model. Google and Asus in July launched an 8GB and 16GB Nexus 7 that are priced at $199 and $249. Confirming that a new variant is coming are (i) reports that a Japanese customer received a 32GB Nexus 7 instead of the 16GB that was originally ordered, and (ii) the Spanish leg of Carphone Warehouse listing the new tablet version, although it priced the tablet at 279 euro (roughly $360).
What Else You Need To Know
- While there have been reports that Asus and Google are working on a 3G or 4G-ready Nexus 7, the 32GB variant will likely still lack cellular connectivity.
- CNET has confirmed that Google and Samsung are working on a 10-inch and high-end successor to the Nexus 7 but the site says that the device will only be ready in the first half of 2013.

Those that don’t mind streaming and cloud storage will likely flock to buy a sub-$199 Nexus 7, and the existing price point for the 16GB model is more than fair for a 32GB model.

We don’t know what price Google will launch the 32GB model at, but we can guess that it will want to keep it on the inexpensive side. If Google phases out the 16GB model with the release of the 32GB one, it could be that the company will offer the new 32GB version for the same price as the 16GB model.
