Apple will launch a 7.85-inch version of the 9.7-inch iPad in October, according to DigiTimes. Apple has reportedly ordered production of 4 million units per month of the iPad mini starting September to meet demand during the holidays. The iPad mini will have a 'thinner screen frame' and similar resolution to that of the iPad 2, not the retina display of the third generation iPad.

What Else You Need To Know:

- Reports differ. Analyst Peter Misek has previously said the iPad will launch at $300. In May, iMore claimed that an iPad mini with a Retina display would launch at $200 to $250.

- Apple does not comment on future product releases.
