According to renderings submitted to the Federal Communications Commission, Acer is readying a new tablet that's running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but featuring low-end specs. The Acer Iconia B1 features a 7-inch touchscreen, 1024 x 600 resolution, a MediaTek dual-core 1.2 GHz processor with PowerVR SGX 531 graphics, paltry 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a microSD slot for additional storage, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and (possibly) mobile data connectivity. The tablet, which has a striking resemblance to the Barnes & Noble Nook, is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
What Else You Need To Know
- The Iconia B1 will compete with the popular budget tablets Google Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD, which are priced starting at $199.
- Pundits claim that given its specs, the Iconia B1 needs to be in the sub-$100 to $150 price-range in order to sell.
