Android platform survey shows Gingerbread on the decline, ICS and Jelly Bean on the rise
Android Police

Less than a month after it was first released to the public, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean shows signs of a positive response from users after it nearly broke the 1% mark based on a survey of devices accessing the Google Play Store. The survey results show that 0.8% of all Android users now use Jelly Bean, with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich seeing a rise in number of users as well at 15.9%. This has left Gingerbread on what looks like a rather steep decline, as it has gone down from its previous 64% to only 60.6% now. Older versions of Android such as Eclair and Froyo aren't going down as fast, but are definitely on the decline too. Meanwhile, the percentage of Android Cupcake and Donut users remains unchanged at 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.

What Else You Need To Know:

- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was first introduced alongside the Google Nexus 7.

- Android 4.0 ICS is still being rolled out to older devices that were initially launched with either Android 2.3 Gingerbread or Android 3.0 Honeycomb; this will only help increase ICS's share further.

Gingerbread is 20 months old now, and there's really no reason for it to still be so prevalent when ICS has had over half a year to build. - Ryan Whitwham, Android Police
