The iPhone no longer allows anyone to bypass the passcode lock, and iPhone owners in Japan would no longer be receiving faulty directions. Apple has just issued iOS 6.1.3, an 18.2MB incremental update to the operating for its mobile devices. The update fixes a bug, first discovered a month ago, that could allow someone to bypass the passcode and access the Phone app. The update also provides unspecified improvements to the Maps app for Japan. Owners of jailbroken iPhones are being advised to avoid downloading the update as 6.1.3 beta fixes a key vulnerability used by the evasi0n jailbreak, rendering it ineffective.
What Else You Need To Know
- Apple last week addressed some problems with Japan region -locations in a server-side update last week, adding toll road notifications, improving pronunciation of audio directions and building in more 3D renderings of landmarks for flyover mode.
- The update is available over the air and through iTunes: go to Settings > General > Software Update, or connect your device to your computer through USB.
- The previous update, iOS 6.1.2, fixed an Exchange calendar bug that could result in increased network activity and reduced battery life.
