Apple is no longer selling and has stopped sending iOS updates for the original iPad. The iPad 2, which is still available in Apple's website and the Apple Store for $399, may also soon be phased out. Evercore Partners analyst Rob Cihra said Apple pull the iPad 2 from shelves to make way for the iPad mini. Apple has scheduled an October 23rd event to unveil a miniature version of the 9.7-inch iPad. The iPad mini is expected to be an iPad 2 shrunken down to a 7.85-inch display: just a slightly upgraded processor, non-Retina display and same 1024 x 768 resolution, and price range just slightly lower than the $399 price tag of the iPad 2.
What Else You Need To Know
- Apple's text for the October 23rd event in San Jose, California, was scarce of details, only saying: "We've got a little more to show you."
- Sites have claimed that the iPad mini would have a 7.85-inch display, a brushed aluminum backside, a lower resolution than the 9.7-inch iPad 3's highly touted 2048 x 1536 Retina resolution display, and a price tag significantly below the $499 entry-level iPad 3.
