Apple is widening its lead over other rivals in the U.S. smartphone market. According to market research firm comScore, Apple boosted its market share to 39% as of March, compared to just 21.7% for second-placer Korea-based Samsung. Taiwan-based HTC (9%) kept the third spot but Google's Motorola (8.5%) and Korean device-maker LG (6.8%) are closely catching up.

- In terms of operating system, Google's Android remained the leader, retaining 52% of the market, followed by Apple's iOS (39%), BlackBerry (5.2%), Microsoft's Windows Phone (3.0%) and Nokia's Symbian (0.5%).
- Samsung, which only saw a 0.7 percentage points increase from December, only released the highly-anticipated Galaxy S4 at the end of April this year.
- BlackBerry failed to barge into the top 5 as it only released the BlackBerry 10-running Z10 in the U.S. in March.
