French device-maker Archos confirmed it will start selling gaming tablet GamePad in the U.S. shores sometime in February for only $169.
Launched in November in Europe for $150 Euro (about $194), the GamePad is a 7-inch Android tablet with a set of action buttons and dual analog and dual analog sticks on the sides, plus a key mapping tool that allows non-optimized games to work with the controllers.
The GamePad was popular with gamers in Europe as the initial stock sold out in just a few hours.
What Else You Need To Know
- The GamePad packs a 7-inch display with resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, dual-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 chip with quad-core Mali 400 graphics processor and 1GB of RAM, front-facing camera, 8GB of storage, microSD slot, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
- The GamePad is light and thin, measuring just 10 mm thick and weighing 0.7 pounds.

Bottom line here, if you are in the US and have been waiting for the release of the GamePad — you may want to start setting aside some money as the release should be here sooner rather than later.

It features a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution display, which is acceptable but not fantastic considering you’re gaming. My guess is that the lower resolution will help render a few more frames per second.

Archos built its own app that lets gamers map virtual buttons from games to the physical buttons of the tablet. That way gamers can play any game with the physical buttons without worrying about whether games support controllers or not.
