Archos Introduces Affordable Smartphone Range

Archos, known for its GamePad tablets, announced new pure un-skinned Android smartphones: the low-cost 35 Carbon, the flagship 50 Platinum, and the gigantic 53 Platinum. Set to be released in Europe in May, the 50 Platinum features a 5.0 inch full black IPS display paired with a quad-core CPU at 1.2GHz, 8 mega-pixel camera and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The 35 Carbon features a 3.5-inch screen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1GHz Qualcomm 7225A processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, and a 1300 mAh battery. The 35 Carbon will retail for only $99.99 off-contract, the 50 Platinum is set to retail at $219.99 and the 53 Platinum, which has a 5.3-inch screen, will be available for $249.99.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Some sites, citing a leaked spec sheet, said that aside from the Carbon 35, Archos is also launching in Europe the 4-inch Titanium 4, the 5.2-inch Titanium 5, and high end 4.8-inch Platinum 48 -- all featuring Mediatex processors, supporting dual-SIM and all will launch on a pure un-skinned version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, except for the Platinum 48, which will come preloaded with stock Jelly Bean.
