Asus Padfone 2 now official with quad-core S4 CPU, Android 4.0 ICS
Engadget

The Asus PadFone 2 has finally been unveiled officially at an event held at the Asus HQ over in Taiwan. It boasts a 4.7-inch Super IPS+ HD touchscreen display, 2GB of RAM, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As a phone, it's already quite compelling, with built-in NFC, two years worth of Asus WebStorage, and a 2,140 mAh battery. But it's not just a phone, as it can be plugged into a dock--called the PadFone Station--that comes with a 10.1-inch 1280x800 IPS touchscreen display and a 5,000 mAh battery. This effectively turns it into an Android-powered tablet computer. It will be available in Taiwan starting next week from $620 to $750 depending on the amount of internal storage.

What Else You Need To Know

  • While it may ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Asus promises an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in the near future.
  • The Asus PadFone Station will be sold as a separate accessory for $310.
  • The PadFone 2 lacks a microSD card slot and support for an external keyboard dock.
