ASUS at the Mobile World Congress unveiled a 7-inch tablet that can make calls and a 5-inch, LTE-enabled handset that docks into a 10.1-inch tablet. The Fonepad tablet features an HD screen, full-phone functions, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, an Intel Atom Z2420 chip (instead of an ARM processor), and nine hours of battery life. The second device - the part-phone, part-tab Padfone Infinity - features a 1080p resolution 5-inch screen (touting an eye-popping 441 pixels per inch), a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, a 13MP camera with lagless shutter speed and low-light image sensor, and 19 hours of 3G talk time, and docks inside a 10.1-inch tablet with a similarly impressive Full HD panel. The Fonepad tablet will be available in March starting at $249. The Padfone, priced at a whopping 999 euros ($879), will reach markets in April this year.
What Else You Need To Know
- Although $50 more expensive than the entry-level Nexus 7, the Fonepad does have 3G voice capabilities and an Intel processor.
- The Fonepad is equipped with a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera and a 3-megapixel on the rear, 1 GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage, and 1280 x 800 resolution for its 7-inch display.
- Clad in a premium metallic finish, the Padfone Infinity has been designed with curved edges, allowing for a natural grip.
- The Padfone's host tablet "Station" also acts as a battery pack, giving the Padfone 57 hours talk time or 19.5 hours browsing when inserted.
