ASUS Transformers Go Windows 8 with Vivo Tab
SlashGear

Asus has introduced Windows 8 iterations for its popular Android-running Transformer tablets: the Vivo Tab. The VIVO Tab has an 11.6-inch Super IPS+ display, has a slick and elegant design, is powered by the powerful next generation Intel Atom CPU, and has a stylus for note-taking. The Vivo Tab RT looks exactly like its counterpart, but is smaller with a 10.1-inch screen, lighter by 154 grams, has half the storage space, is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, and runs on Windows RT which comes with Microsoft Office 2013. The optional keyboard dock, which turns the device into a fully-fledged notebook when attached, provides additional battery life.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The Vivo Tab, which was among ASUS devices showcased at IFA 2012, also has 10-point multi-touch display, 2GB RAM, 64GB of solid state storage, 1.49 pounds (675 grams) weight, 8.7mm thickness, 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 2MP front camera, and NFC sensor.
  • Asus president Jerry Shen said the company plans to use the price of Apple's new iPad as reference for its own Windows 8 tablets. The entry level iPad is priced at $499 and Microsoft's own Surface RT tablet is rumored to be priced at $199.
  • Windows 8 devices are slated for release at the end of October.

IFA 2012: Asus launches two Vivo Tab Windows 8 tablets... again

For a start, Asus' Windows 8 tablets are to be called the Asus Vivo Tab and the Asus Vivo Tab RT. That may not impress many marketing execs as a brand name (Vivo means 'to live'), but it is at least better than Tablet 810 and Tablet 600 which is what Asus was calling them last time we spoke.

Things to look out for: Office 2013′s icons along the bottom of the screen when in ‘Desktop mode,’ and the lack of lag in the operating systems response. The Office icons matter as they are the only apps, along with Internet Explorer if I recall properly, that will run in desktop mode in Windows RT. The lack of lag is important as the Vivo Tab RT has the power of modern smartphone, essentially.
