AT&T has reportedly started instructing its retail staff to sell anything but Apple's iPhone in order to help customers "make an informed decision." Currently the most popular smartphone available throught AT&T, the iPhone is apparently deemed too popular for its own sake by some of the people at AT&T corporate. As such, staffers have been told to spend extra effort getting customers to take a look at Android and Windows Phone alternatives when they walk straight in looking for an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S from Apple.

- Two of the more popular iPhone alternatives that have been mentioned in related reports are the Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC One X, which are both available through AT&T.
- Since details of this report first got published, AT&T is said to have reached out to various publications to say that the idea of it steering customers away from any one device such as the Apple iPhone as "farfetched." An AT&T spokesperson has been quoted as saying, "iPhone remains one of our most popular devices, which doesn't happen by steering people away from it."
