Bill Gates Says iPad Users "Frustrated", Admits Apple Is "Leader"
Business Insider SAI

Microsoft founder Bill Gates said in an interview with CNBC that the Windows 8-running Surface tablet brings the "portability of the tablet but the richness of the PC." Commenting on the market-leading iPad and other iPad-like devices, he says, "A lot of those users are frustrated, they can't type, they can't create documents, they don't have Office there." The Surface includes not coincidentally a physical keyboard accessory and access to Office. Commenting on Apple's shares, which by 40% between September and April, Gates said, "With tech companies, whoever is the leader is always questioned. They say 'is this the end of them?' and there's more times people think that's the case than it actually is the case."

What Else You Need To Know

  • Apple sold 19.5 million iPads last quarter while Microsoft has sold in very small volumes relative to the iPad.
  • Gates identified Apple, Google and Microsoft as "strong" tech companies and Amazon, Facebook and Samsung as up and coming tech companies.
