A relatively unknown Chinese device-maker, Cube, has a new tablet that claims to rival the iPad 3's highly touted retina display but could 60% cheaper than the $499 iPad. The Cube U9GT5 is an Android tablet that comes with a 9.7-inch IPS panel with 2048 x 1536 resolution, for a 264 ppi pixel density, same as the iPad. The Cube tablet is also at par with the Google Nexus 7 in terms of running on Jelly Bean, beating other Android tablets like the Kindle Fire, which are still using the one-year-old Ice Cream Sandwich. Cube has not announced pricing and availability outside China, but rumors say the slate would have an entry level price of $200, same as the Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Other features of the Cube U9GT5 include full access to Google Play, dual-core 1.6GHz RockChip RK3066 processor with ARM Mali 400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8 or 16GB of on-board memory, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
