Mozilla is getting closer and closer to unleashing its own mobile phone operating system onto the world, Firefox OS. The software company introduced two Firefox OS-running phones - Keon and Peak - to entice developers into building and testing apps for the new HTML5-powered mobile operating system. The two "developer preview phones" were not manufactured by Mozilla itself but was developed by Spanish company Geeksphone in partnership with carrier Telefonica. Firefox phones from ZTE, Alcatel One Touch and other brands are expected to arrive starting in February.
What Else You Need To Know
- The Firefox OS will be built on Mozilla's Boot to Gecko project, which attempts to enable HTML5 applications - not native apps - to access the underlying capabilities of a phone.

- The Peak offers higher-end specs: a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.3-inch qHD IPS display, 8-MP rear-facing camera, 2-MP front camera, 4GB ROM and 512MB RAM and a 1800 mAh battery.
