Fujitsu is working on technology that would allow smartphone and tablet users to check their pulse using their devices' built-in cameras. Fujitsu Laboratories says the technology detects variations in a person's face caused by the flow of blood through numerous blood vessels running through the face. The app would not need any accessory (other than the smartphone's camera) and would only require the user to remain still for those five seconds. The Japanese company says the technology could be used for health and security applications. The app is expected to be available within a year.
