Google's Nexus handsets have pretty decent cameras but they'll be DSLR-like in the future. A Google executive took to Google+ to wonder whether he should be taking a bulky DSLR with him in addition to his Nexus 4 and Google Glass set for his vacation trip to Lake Tahoe. A follower commented that he wouldn't have to worry about taking a DSLR if the Nexus 4 had some truly revolutionary camera hardware. "We are committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras. Just you wait and see," Google Senior Vice President of Engineering Vic Gundotra answered. Reports are linking Gundotra's remarks to rumors that new subsidiary Motorola is readying an X Phone with a killer camera.

- The Google executive's comments come at a time when a camera war is brewing: Nokia is said to be bringing its 41-megapixel sensor on its Symbian-based 808 PureView to its Windows phones; HTC's upcoming M7 is slated to combine three 4.3-MP sensors for its "ultrapixel" camera; and Sony has unveiled a high dynamic range (HDR) technology for its new Xperia Z phones.
- This isn't Gundotra first social network misstep: two years ago he was asked by Google chief Larry Page to stop tweeting after he commented on Twitter "two turkeys don't make an Eagle" on the Microsoft-Nokia partnership.
- The Motorola X phone, which is reportedly having a five-inch edge-to-edge display, game changing software, and long battery life, is expected to be unveiled at Google's I/O event in May.
