Getac has unveiled its seven-inch Getac Z710 tablet, which has a rubberized shell encasing the entire device, a Gorilla Glass display, and a capacitive touch display that can still be used even when wearing gloves. Able to withstand drops of up to 6 feet, dust and liquid, as well as temperatures from minus 4 F, up to 122 F, the Getac Z710 claims to be the world's most rugged Android tablet. The device ships in the U.S. in October starting at $1,499 for the Wi-Fi only model and $1,799 for the Wi-Fi + 3G version. The device will also be available in Europe shortly.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The Getac Z710 has an integrated PowerVR SGX540 graphics acceleration setup and makes use of a patented QuadraClear technology that minimizes sunlight glare.
  • Other specs include 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, Bluetooth, integrated SiRFstar GPS sensor, 5MP rear camera, HD webcam in front, 16GB of onboard flash, microSD card for up to 32GB of additional storage, and 10 hours of battery life.
  • With the field service sectors in mind, Getac says that early feedback suggested that a 7-inch screen will be the preferred option due to mobility. However, the vendor will still offer a 10-inch unit.
