Google CEO Confirms Nexus 4 Shortages at Earnings Call
Other

Google at its recent earnings call informed investors that fourth quarter revenue was $14.42 billion, a 36% increase year-over-year, but the search giant could have further boosted those figures had it avoided Nexus 4 shortages during the holiday season. Google CEO Larry Page acknowledged at the call that Google has some work to do when it comes to managing its supply and said that it's now a "priority" for the company. The Nexus 4, which was co-developed by Google and LG, generated interest because of its impressive specs and low $300 off-contract price tag. The device was launched Nov. 13 at the Google Play store but both 16GB and 32GB versions quickly sold out due to limited supply.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The Nexus 4 features a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, front facing 1.3MP camera, 8MP rear camera, a micro-SIM card tray, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
  • As for Motorola, the cellphone business purchased by Google in May 2012, Page said that they're looking at a 12 to 18 month product pipeline.
  • Google also owns Android, the world's most widely used smartphone platform.
