Google Glass Out of Project Phase; Contest Winners Can Preorder Sci-Fi Eyewear
Daily Mobile

Google is once again stoking the hype machine over Project Glass, indicating that consumers could start wearing the Android-driven augmented-reality eyewear sooner rather than later. The tech giant released a new YouTube video that shows the Project Glass from a user's point of view. Titled "How It Feels through Glass," the video shows several users wearing Glass and using the device to record video, share photos, search for information, take part in Google+ Hangouts, and reply to messages. Google also launched a web site for Glass, which didn't have the word "Project" in the site name (thus out of the project phase?), although the site did say that the device's "still in the early stages". The site has kicked of a contest that would choose up to 8,000 "bold, creative individuals" who would qualify to pre-order Glass Explorer Edition for $1,500 plus tax.

What Else You Need To Know

  • To join the contest, open Google+ or Twitter, write hashtag #ifihadglass, then explain in 50 words or less what you would do if you had Glass, and you may include up to 5 photos and a 15-second video. The contest ends February 27th.
  • Only people at least 18 years of age and living in the U.S. are eligible for the Glass Explorer Program.
  • Google co-founder demonstrated Google Glass for the first time at the Google I/O conference in June 2012. This year's I/O developer conference is slated to begin May 15 in San Francisco.
