Google recently sent out press invites for a special press event scheduled to happen in New York City on October 29th. This is going to be on the same day that Microsoft is expected to fully launch Windows Phone 8, which is a clear sign that Google aims to redirect some of that day's thunder from San Francisco over to NYC. The invite shows the Google Android search bar pictured against the NYC skyline with the words, "The playground is open." It's been said that this might be an indication of Google's plans to allow multiple manufacturers to release different versions of its Nexus smartphone. The truth will be revealed soon enough.

- The Google event on October 29th is scheduled to start at 10AM ET and will be available via a livestream on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/android.
- There is speculation that Google will formally launch the upcoming LG Nexus 4 at the October 29th press event.
