Google Play Celebrates 1st Birthday with Giveaways
Engadget

Today, June 6, Google marks the one year since it rolled out Google Play to replace Android Market. Google opted to rebrand its mobile store to better reflect the fact that it's home to more than just Android apps. To celebrate the occasion, Google Play is offering discounts, gift cards and exclusive in-game content, free books, discounted music, movies and rentals. The special deals slightly vary by country and region and will be offered for only a week. Folks in the U.S. can currently pick up a free tune from LCD Soundsystem, $20 in free gift cards through Gyft and a free copy of Breaking Bad's pilot episode, among other things.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Google has hinted at more giveaways throughout the week.
  • Google Play held a sale in September when it hit 25 billion app downloads.
