HP, Seller of $99 TouchPads, Tries Tablet Market Again
Android Central

Almost exactly a year after sending its $499 9.7-inch TouchPad to $99 firesales and ending its webOS hardware business, Hewlett-Packard is giving the mobile space another go. HP has created a new Mobility Global Business Unit to reinvest in mobility and develop "amazing new products." The unit will be headed by seven-year Nokia veteran executive Alberto Torres.

What Else You Need To Know:

- There are reports HP is developing a new Windows 8 tablet, highlighted by images recently "leaked" by HP themselves.

- The upcoming 10.1-inch Slate 8 tablet is expected to have a Windows 8 operating system, unlike previous HP mobile devices, which run on HP's own Palm webOS.

What exactly HP intends to do with the Mobility GBU isn't entirely clear, though we have little doubt their focus will be on tablets and not smartphones, and it's all but certain Windows 8 will play a major role going forward. - Derek Kessler, Android Central
