HTC G1 gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update via CyanogenMod 10
AndroidSPIN

A group of Android developers who call themselves SoCal Devs have successfully ported Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the world's very first--and oldest--Android smartphone: the HTC Dream a.k.a. T-Mobile G1. The Jelly Bean port comes in the form of a CyanogenMod 10 pre-alpha release, so things aren't exactly running smooth as silk. For the moment, it has been confirmed that touchscreen controls, Wi-Fi, and at least some of the Android apps are working, albeit in slo-mo. Which is plenty good for experimenting, but probably not quite enough to warrant using the unfinished hack as a day-to-day operating system. At the very least, it's definitely going to put some life back into any old G1s that are still lying around.

What Else You Need To Know:

- The latest stable release of CyanogenMod is at CM9, which should become available for download within the next 24 hours.

- There are still only a handful of apps in the market running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of the Android software.

The only question that remains is: if this can be done on such an old handset by the bedroom developers, why does it take so long for today’s top flight handsets? - Adam Bunker, Electricpig
