Apple is expected to release a new iteration of the operating system for the iPad and unveil the sixth generation iPhone this September, just weeks before the one-year anniversary of iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S. John Gruber, writing for Daring Fireball, said Apple will hold a separate event for the iPad mini in October. AllThingsD's John Paczkowski, who broke the news about the iPad 3 launch in March, said several sources have confirmed an October launch of the iPad mini. The separate launch dates for the two iOS devices are attributed to Apple not wanting reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time.
What Else You Need To Know:
- The iPad mini, the 7.85-inch version of the 9.7-inch iPad, was previously rumored to be launched simultaneously with the mythical iPhone 5 and iOS 6 on September 12th.
- This would be the first time Apple would be releasing a mid-sized tablet, as the late Apple founder Steve Jobs had publicly claimed that mid-sized tablets were "dead-on-arrival."
