Later-Than Expected Debut for iPhone 5S?

Apple's follow-up to last September's iPhone 5 is going to be launched a little later than expected, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo. Kuo attributes the delays to problems integrating a new fingerprint sensor part into the handset, as well as overhauls taking place with iOS 7. Just like any other "S" upgrade for the iPhone, the iPhone 5S is expected to retain the design of its predecessor but will have a new software, faster processor and improved optics. The device has been rumored for a summer launch.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Kuo also says that the follow-up to last November's iPad mini will also be delayed because of difficulties manufacturing the tablet's upgraded Retina display panels.
  • Reports have claimed that aside from the iPhone 5S, Apple is releasing this year a low-cost iPhone, and Kuo says that efforts by Apple to keep the device's plastic shell as thin as possible will likely lead to production issues for coatings and surface treatments.
