Lenovo drops support for IdeaPad K1 tablet, leaves users with Android 4.0 ICS upgrade

It's not uncommon for tech companies to drop support for their older products in order to better assist the users of newer devices. And this is exactly what Lenovo is doing with the IdeaPad K1, which it will no longer be supporting from here on in. Lenovo will instead focus all its support powers on the S2109 and S2110 Android tablets, which both run Android 4.0 ICS.

Speaking of which, perhaps in order to appease owners of the IdeaPad K1, Lenovo is giving out free upgrades to Android 4.0 ICS for the same, available with instructions on how to download and install on the official Lenovo web site. Of course, since Lenovo will no longer offer support for the IdeaPad K1, those who do go forward with the ICS upgrade will have to rely on the developer community for future assistance--just in case anything goes wrong.

What Else You Need To Know:

- The IdeaPad K1 was launched as one of Lenovo's first tablets built on an NVIDIA Tegra platform. Android Honeycomb 3.2 is the last official available update.

- While Lenovo does provide an upgrade to Android 4.0 ICS for IdeaPad K1 users, this doesn't include the Google Apps suite for Android. Those who want to get the full Google Android experience need to download the Apps suite elsewhere.

- This effectively kills whatever possibility there was that Lenovo would update the IdeaPad K1 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
