Lenovo Unveils New ThinkPad Tablet 2 with Windows 8

Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkPad Tablet 2 and confirmed that the iPad rival will ship in October. Confirmed specs and features include a Windows 8 Pro operating system, an Intel Atom processor, a 10.1-inch screen, 1,366 x 768 IPS resolution display, a 10-hour battery, optional 3G / 4G connectivity, micro-HDMI output, and 8 megapixel front and 2 megapixel rear shooters.

Packaged as an enterprise device, the tablet has an NFC radio, a fingerprint reader, a pen that can be stowed in a slot on the tablet, a dock with three USB ports, HDMI-out, and an Ethernet jack. The incredibly thin tablet just measures 9.8 mm and light at 1.3 pounds, despite its full packed features.

Lenovo has not announced pricing for the device, which is expected to be launched simultaneously with Windows 8, the first Microsoft software designed to work on smartphones, tablets and PCs. While Lenovo has not given an exact date for the tablet release, Microsoft has marked Oct. 26 as the release date of Windows 8.

What Else You Need To Know:

- The ThinkPad 2 has a 1,366 x 768 IPS resolution display, which still pales with the iPad's 2,048 × 1,536 Retina display.

- The current ThinkPad Tablet on shelves has an Android OS.

- The ThinkPad 2 has a decent 1,366 x 768 IPS resolution display but the new iPad offers more pixels with its 2,048 × 1,536 Retina display.

- Lenovo has confirmed that the device would have an Intel Atom processor but hasn't specified the CPU speeds.

Windows 8, the latest operating system from Microsoft, will ship on October 26th. Lenovo has not yet given a release date or pricing for the ThinkPad 2 but it says that the device will be available when Windows 8 launches so we imagine that October 26th is as good of a day as any for a release date.
