LG unveiled a new version of its Optimus G Pro, which comes with a gigantic 5.5-inch display and an industry-first 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. At 400 ppi, the LG Optimus G Pro's full HD display is far sharper than 720p screens even on smaller phones. The device's 3,140mAh battery is touted as the largest in its class and allows "for full HD viewing enjoyment for hours on end". The new handset will be released in Korea-based LG's home country this week but won't be available in North America until the second quarter of 2013.
What Else You Need To Know
- The Optimus G Pro also touts a 5.5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 2.1-megapixel shooter on the front, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and 4G LTE connectivity.
- Software tweaks in the Android Jelly Bean running device include dual recording -- that allows video to be recorded with the front and rear cameras simultaneously -- and virtual reality panorama, which turns shots into 360 degree images.
- In January, a Japanese carrier unveiled an Optimus G Pro that featured a relatively smaller 5.0-inch display with a slightly older 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
- LG will be showing off the G Pro as well as other devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on February 25 to 28th.
