LG to Manufacture Nexus 5?
GottaBeMobile

Google has released a new Nexus smartphone each year for the past four years. LG, which manufactured the well-received Nexus 4, may have been chosen by Google to manufacture the fifth iteration of the Nexus smartphone, The Korea Times reports. The report claims that Google CEO Larry Page recently met with LG's chief executive Koo Bon-joon in South Korea, LG's home country, to discuss a sequel to the Nexus 4 and other products, including an LG-Google OLED TV. The Nexus 4 launch got off to a rocky start with site and availability issues with Google and LG lobbing blame at each other. But demand for the device has been overwhelming and reviews have been impressive.

What Else You Need To Know

  • In the past, the search giant and Android software maker selected HTC, Samsung (twice), and LG to make the hardware for the Nexus handsets.
  • LG struggled to make a mark on the smartphone space for many years, but it’s on the right track now, with the success of the LG Optimus and the Nexus 4.
