Microsoft is reportedly going to lift its restrictions on chipmakers who intend to develop devices for Windows RT. Because of this, several OEMs including Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung have been named as part of the short list of those who will push out Windows RT tablets in the future. NVIDIA is said to have sided with Asus and Lenovo, while Texas Instruments has gone with Toshiba and Qualcomm has partnered with Samsung.

What You Need To Know:

- Microsoft initially issued restrictions for chipmakers to work with only one OEM per chip/design.

- HP has opted out of making Windows RT tablets with ARM chips completely.

- So far, the list of OEMs either rumored or confirmed to be working on ARM-based Windows RT tablets include Acer, Asus, Dell, HTC, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Samsung.
