Nexus 10 Tops iPad 4's Retina Display at $200 Less
Android Central

Google has unveiled a Nexus 10 tablet that has a higher resolution than the fourth-generation iPad's highly touted Retina display. The Nexus 10 features a 10.1-inch, 2,560 x 1,600-pixel resolution display, which gives the device 299 pixels per inch (ppi), easily topping the 264 ppi on the 9.7-inch iPad 4. The 32 GB Nexus 10 is available for only $399, which is $200 cheaper than the 32 GB iPad 4. Although the Nexus 10's winning in a specs shoot-out, Apple though will rely on brand loyalty, its ability to price products at a premium, portfolio of tablet-optimized apps, and the Apple ecosystem to outsell Google's newest slate.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Developed through a partnership by Google and Samsung, the Nexus 10 is currently only available for purchase online and will ship November 13th. The tablet also features the slightly upgraded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, an Exunos 5250 CPU with a Mali T604 graphics chip, 5MP and 1.9MP rear and front cameras, and NFC connectivity.
  • Available November 2nd, the iPad 4 features a quad-core A6X chip, 9.7-inch, 2048 x 1536 color IPS LCD display, 1.2MP front camera, 5MP 720p HD rear camera. The Wi-Fi-only iPad 4 is available for $499 (16GB), $599 (32GB), and $699 (64GB). The 4G LTE-ready iPad 4 is available for $629, $729 and $829, respectively.

For starters, it runs on Android 4.2 (still called Jelly Bean), so it one-ups the Kindle Fire HD and its Android 4.0 operating system in terms of software. It's reasonably priced too -- its 16GB model is $100 less than the iPad, but it's still about $100 more than the Kindle Fire HD.

Apple brands their display as “Retina-quality” while Google says they’ve got the “highest resolution on the planet.” Apple’s “Retina” qualification was created by Apple, of course, while Google’s claim goes this far: if you’re considering every display on the planet, there certainly are a handful of units (smartphones, each of them) that have a higher number of pixels per inch : but when you consider the fact that this tablet has more pixels overall at 300 PPI, it does indeed have the most.
