The Google Nexus 7 may have a cheaper price tag, faster processor and a better screen than the Apple iPad mini but the top selling Android tablet couldn't defeat the $329 miniature iPad in durability tests, according to initial results Android Authority says the iPad mini, dropped three times from chest height, shattered but remained usable but found the top selling Android tablet breaking and becoming unusable. Warranty provider SquareTrade says that after being dropped on the pavement then dunked in a tank of water, the iPad mini remained functional while the Nexus 7 was rendered unresponsive.

  • The iPad mini sports a 7.9-inch screen with 1024 x 768 resolution for a 163 ppi pixel density, dimensions of 200 x 134.7 x 7.2mm, a dual-core A5 processor, 16.3 Wh Li-Po battery that gives 10 hours, a 1.2MP front-facing FaceTime HD camera, and 5MP rear facing iSight camera, and a 4G LTE option.
  • Priced at $199 and released in July, the Nexus 7 features a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a 7-inch screen with 216 pixels-per-inch (ppi) resolution, built-in NFC, Jelly Bean operating system, and a front-facing camera.

For the final test, AA dropped both tablets with the displays facing downward. Surprisingly, even though the iPad mini shifted and fell on its sides, the tablet still worked, again. The Nexus 7 was already destroyed in the last round, but was subjected to another drop on its face and as you’d expect, it didn’t return from the dead.
