Nokia Android smartphone rumors put to rest
Other

Last week, a Linux-related job posting made by Nokia on LinkedIn sparked rumors that it might be making its very own Android-flavored smartphone or tablet computer. This caused a ton of excitement and speculation until Nokia's very own Doug Dawson from the Media Relations team finally stepped in to put the rumors to rest. According to information from Dawson's Twitter account, Nokia is not making any Android-powered devices. Instead, it is working to port its new HERE mapping service to other platforms.

What Else You Need To Know

  • HERE is the rebranded Nokia Maps app that was unveiled recently and is set to be launched for Android and iOS some time next year.
  • For now, Nokia will be making Windows Phone-powered smartphones like the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 exclusively.
