The Next Web

Public Mobile is gearing up to launch its very own unlimited music service in cooperation with Livewire Mobile and industry heavyweights Universal, Sony Music, and Warner. The new service is called Siren and is scheduled for an official launch on August 16. Siren can be enjoyed by Public Mobile subscribers on the $40/month Unlimited Talk, Text and Data plan which includes call display, call waiting, call forwarding and 3-way calling. For an extra $7, Voice mail and unlimited Canadian long distance become added bonuses. According to Public Mobile, Siren subscribers will be able to download as much music as they want. And all music files are going to be saved to local storage, so it will be possible to listen to the tracks even without an active Internet connection.

What Else You Need To Know:

- Public Mobile's Siren music service will be available exclusively for users of Android devices.

- Siren is on offer for what is being referred to as "introductory prices" for now, which means that there may be a price bump some time in the near future.

- About 1 million tracks will be available at Siren's launch, with an added 4 million on the way as Public Mobile gets indie bands to sign up to become part of the service.
