In addition to new tablets, Amazon on Thursday launched a new eReader with a self-illuminating screen. Following the Nook SimpleTouch with GlowLight from rival Barnes and Noble, Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite has a front-lit display that lets you read in the dark. The device has a sharper and crisper display as it has 25% more contrast and a 62% higher resolution (now 221 ppi) than current Kindles. The Kindle Paperwhite will be available October 1st at $119 for the Wi-Fi only version and $179 for the 3G model. Versions of the eReader without ad support are available for $20 more.
What Else You Need To Know
- The Kindle Paperwhite boasts of its 8-week battery life, a thin bezel, and light and slim body at 7.5 ounces and 9.1 mm.
- Amazon will still be selling regular Kindles, which will have new fonts, sharper text, 15 percent faster page turns, and priced at $10 less for only $69 (ad-supported) starting on September 14th.
