Rewritten, Speedier Facebook App Now on iPad
SlashGear

Facebook has released a speedier and drastically improved version of its app for the iPad and other iOS devices. The top social network now claims that with Facebook 5.0, scrolling through the feed, photos and loading the app will now be twice faster. Facebook's separate apps, Camera and Messenger, now also share a code base with the main Facebook app and, thus, now run within.

What Else You Need To Know:

- Facebook has 500 million users accessing it monthly across 7,000 different types of mobile devices.

- The HTML5-based app was rebuilt using the Objective-C programming language, allowing the app to run natively on the iPad, because HTML5 has been able to deliver the expected speed and performance.

This is all well and good. But why on earth did this take so long? For a company that claims to be “mobile first,” you’d think that Facebook would have gotten its apps up to speed much sooner. - Mike Isaac, AllThingsD
