Samsung's Upcoming P10: Windows 8 or Android?
Tech Radar

Samsung is expected to release sometime this year a new tablet that has a retina display and new processor technology. Codenamed P10, the slate would have 2560 x 1600 pixels on a 11.8-inch WQXGA screen for a 256 ppi -- well within the league of the 264 ppi of the third generation 9.7-inch iPad, which has been touted for its amazing display. The new tablet would be powered by Samsung's next-generation Exynos 5 Dual dual-core mobile processor.

What Else You Need To Know:

- While the Exynos 5 just has 2 cores (unlike the quad-core Tegra 3 CPU), it has a quad-core graphics processor, promising better multimedia performance and playback full 1080p high-definition at 60 frames per second, double the normal rate.

- Remaining a mystery is whether P10 would run on Android Jelly Bean or the upcoming Windows 8 (or Windows RT).

- Samsung has not confirmed the launch date of the P10, but has announced that the Galaxy Note 10.1 would go on sale worldwide in August. UK online retailer Expansys has priced the Note 10.1 at £479.99 (about $754).

Samsung is moments away from a true iPad alternative

So, Samsung has a pixel-dense display – one we have high hopes for, too, given the company’s track record in panel technology – and the processor to drive it, but that’s not the extent of the new Exynos’ abilities. In fact, running such a screen is really just the baseline.
