Owners of the BlackBerry 10-running Q10 can now download Skype from BlackBerry World. The app is still in preview form, and the device-maker and Skype are still working on making the app better for the final release. Notwithstanding, app's core functionality is already there: free Skype-to-Skype video calls and instant messaging, as well as calling to regular phones for purchasers of Skype credit. Skype will become official when the Q10 hits stores in Canada on May 1 and support for the more popular BlackBerry Z10 will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
What Else You Need To Know
- To celebrate the launch, Skype is giving a 3-month Skype Unlimited World subscription to its BlackBerry 10 users.
- The new app has been tuned to take advantage of the Q10's smaller screen, integrating tightly with BlackBerry's phonebook by automatically importing a user's Skype contacts.
