Multiple news sources, all citing leaks, report that Sony is releasing in the following weeks the Xperia ZR, which would feature a higher level of resistance that the flagship Xperia Z and be more compact. The Android Jelly Bean-running device reportedly will borrow the looks of the Xperia Z but will be waterproof and dust-resistant like the Xperia Z. Sony has not provided any official confirmation.

- The Sony Xperia ZR is rumored to tout a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GH of RAM, 8GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). The phone is said to boast an impressive 13-megapixel with Exmor RS sensor.
- The ZR is rumored to feature a design akin to the Xperia ZL but will have a smaller 4.6-inch 720p display, a glass body and a little bit thicker than 10mm.
