Based on a recent study conducted by Metrico Wireless, it has been found that battery life gets cut down in half when smartphones are used with Voice over LTE feature or VoLTE instead of regular CDMA network voice calls. The study results show that from 502 minutes under CDMA, the battery life went down to just 251 minutes under VoLTE. This is now being cited as one of the reasons why VoLTE is taking too long to come to market.
