Big-box retailer Toys 'R' Us developed and recently rolled out the kid-friendly Android tablet called Tabeo. By being a tablet-maker, the world's largest toy retailer thus became subject to intellectual property infringement claims that are hounding other device-makers. The maker of the Nabi tablet sued Toys R Us in federal court in San Diego, California, alleging that the Tabeo copied Nabi's butterfly-shaped bumper and replicated the Nabi experience. Toys 'R' Us used to be the exclusive distributor of Nabi tablets.

- Toys R Us' exclusive rights to sell Nabi tablets expired January. The retailer, which sells other branded tablets, did no promotion and made limited orders for the Nabi tablet, Nabi said in the suit.
- Priced at $150 and slated for an October 21st release, the Tabeo features a 7-inch touchscreen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 50 pre-installed apps including the popular "Angry Birds", and access to 7,000 interactive and educational apps at the retailer's own app store.
- Other specs include a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor, front and rear cameras, 4GB of flash memory, microSD support for additional storage, HDMI output to connect the tablet to a TV, and parental control on what apps can be installed and how long they can be used.

The answer, according to Fuhu, was that Toys "R" Us planned all along to launch its own competing tablet, and was getting close to Fuhu in order to study its market research, design and business plans (despite their being shared with Toys "R" Us under NDAs).
