A Facebook-branded phone could be released sooner rather than later, as specs of the device have already been leaked. The world's number one social network is partnering with device-maker HTC and carrier AT&T on a Facebook- and Instagram-centric phone, currently dubbed the HTC Myst. The HTC Myst sports specs of a mid-range device: a 1.5GHz, dual-core MSM8960 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3-inch, 720p display with 320 ppi pixel density, 16GB of storage with no microSD expansion, and dual 5MP/1.6MP cameras. The device is built around Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but is expected to have customizations to make the device more Facebook oriented.

What Else You Need To Know

  • HTC in 2011 released the Android device HTC Status / ChaCha, which had a dedicated Facebook button below its keyboard.

There is no solid word on when we can expect to see the phone launch, but the companies behind it should be ramping things up over the next few months. - Kevin Krause, Phandroid
The handset doesn’t seem to be too far below top-tier devices based on these specs (with the exception of that camera, which could use HTC’s Ultrapixel tech to still deliver solid photos), so if it’s priced right it could be a boon for both Facebook and HTC. - Darrell Etherington, Mobile Crunch
