US Intelligence Committee wants to ban Huawei and ZTE from US for security reasons
Geeky Gadgets

In a recently conducted investigation into the activities of Chinese companies ZTE and Huawei, the US House of Representatives' Intelligence Committee concluded that both need to be treated as security threats to the US and its systems, and should therefore be shut out of the market entirely. A document from the report states that the companies present a serious espionage threat, not only to the privacy of individual consumers but also to the US national security. What the report fails to mention is whether the security risk was found through the various types of networking equipment or the handsets that are being produced and sold by both companies in the US.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Both Huawei and ZTE have reacted angrily over this report, as expected. A statement from Huawei reads, "Huawei is no different from any start-up enterprises in Silicon Valley, and our growth and development relies very much on our entrepreneurial spirit, the commitment and hard work of our employees, as well as our unwavering dedication to innovation."

The House Intelligence Committee can’t enact any laws on its own, but it will submit this report to both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. That being said, this definitely isn’t the last we’ve heard of this controversial report (or the rift its bound to cause in Chinese and American relations). - Eric Abent, Android Community
