Verizon's Galaxy Tab 10.1 Finally Tasting Ice Cream Sandwich
Android Central

A year after Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was first unveiled at the Google Galaxy Nexus launch, the Android update is finally coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. ICS is not the most recent update to Google's mobile operating system as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was already installed to the 7-inch Google/ASUS Nexus 7 and other new devices in July. Nonetheless, the over-the-air-update of Android 4.0.4 would improve the Galaxy Tab 10.1's functionality and interface, including adding pinch to zoom, integrated Google Plus, integrated Google Text-To-Speech Engine, and an enhanced camera software.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The 248MB ICS update also provides Wi-Fi Direct support, a redesigned Gallery app, built-in support for Bluetooth Health Device Profile (HDP) devices, and search and undo/redo options to Email.
  • The Tab 10.1, which was pre-installed with Android 3.1 Honeycomb, was Verizon's first LTE-capable tablet and was available at launch for $529.99 (16GB of storage) and $629.99 (32GB) on a two-year data plan of at least $30 per month. The Wi-Fi-only edition is available online and with retailers and priced at $499.99, same as the entry-level iPad.

The 248MB update will be available for download soon, though we’re not sure just how soon. Then again, nothing stops you from checking for new software right now. Hit Settings, About tablet and take it from there.
