Microsoft gave away details about upcoming Windows RT tablets. One device being readied by a hardware partner measures just 8.35 mm thick and weighs onlhy 520 grams - half a millimeter slimmer and 100 grams lighter than the second and third generation iPad. The Windows RT tablets have displays ranging from 10.1 to 11.6 inches - slightly higher than the 9.7-inch iPad. Batteries on the devices range from 25 to 42 hours, which could last 8 to 13 hours of HD video playback.

What Else You Need To Know:

- Microsoft has confirmed that Asus, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung are readying tablets running on Windows RT, the version of Windows 8 designed for ARM-based tablets.

- More device-makers are expected to announce Windows RT or Windows 8 tablets as the Oct. 26 launch date of the new software nears.

- The Windows RT tablets would last 320 to 400 hours while under Windows 8′s new connected standby state.
